iAllowance Lite with Chores App Reviews

Just starting but a little awkward

Interesting app and I very much like the concept. The execution however seems limited and buggy. Awkward - You cant select multiple children at the same time when editing. This makes you make changes multiple times if it applies to more than one child. Update, you can reorder chores but not from the wizard. You do it from the child settings screens and of course you have to do it for each child. Buggy - Sync is REALLY buggy. Installed it on my phone set for iCloud sync. Oh my - have the custom chores I put it got messed up, or appeared on one device and not the other. This needs some REAL work. Sync seems to go on forever at times. Dropbox sync doesnt seem to allow you to select a location. When I select a chore for completion it sometimes selects multiple chores. Overall its not bad, will wait and see how this plays out and review after a few weeks.

We like it!

The chores List has been expanded and grouped to include school related and self-care so that the one list isnt so long. That and transferring stars into money or screen time has been great for my nine and 11-year-olds. We dont do an allowance, but it has been great for the boys to see that they are earning the privileges. Four weeks into the new school year, Its almost tangible, with great results, instead of the subjective yes/no from one parent or the other. Biggest challenge is the same as ever, consistency. This app helps us.

Get the full version!

The full version allowed my teenager to see when I deducted money from him when he didnt do a chore and also allowed him to add chores to earn money. This app is great! I love how I can customize it! It has allowed me to do less yelling and more hitting "where it hurts" in my sons pockets! Ha!

Disappointed

This app was recommended by a friend and I had great expectations. However, I was never able to get multiple phones to sync properly. I purchased the full upgrade for my phone but it wants me to purchase the upgrade for all the phones I want to sync.

Great app. So helpful

I tell everyone with kids about this app. It is so helpful. No longer having to keep track of what Ive given them and what they earned.

Happy with my purchase!

Easily customized-great support-great for multiple children to track activities

Great app

I only have the free version but it does exactly what I needed to do. I will be upgrading to the pay version soon as my next kid is almost old enough for an allowance.

Awesome

Really good and it helped a lot because it was a great source!

This app does it all

After failing so many times to implement a reward system with my children I finally decided to see if there was an app out there to help and I found iallowance. I love how it can track multiple reward types (money stars time) so whatever my kids are motivated for at the time I can give them that. I can pass out rewards or "punishments" ( losing stars) no matter where we are. Its so easy for the kids to see their progress towards rewards with the colored status bars. For any money they earn I can automatically divide it to spend save give banks. This app is the best representation of real life financial management for kids and it makes teaching good financial principles so easy my 4 and 6 year olds understand. Its the best I just love it so much!

Too complicated

There is so much going on in the app. It almost does too much.

Really good, could be great with some improvements

This is a really good app for managing allowance and has taken the pain out of trying to keep track of whether my kids have done their chores. There two things that really bug me though - its a little unresponsive (can take several seconds for the app to react to checking a box, depending on the device). My kids sometimes check things over and over because they think they didnt hit it, but the app is just slow to react. The second thing is that the dropbox syncing isnt always reliable across multiple devices (it works most of the time) - really need to build in iCloud sync and make it real time. Finally, it would be nice to have a condition that says either you do ALL of these things in a certain span of time or you dont earn anything. The app is structured to reward individual tasks, regardless of when they get done. You can set targets to actually earn a reward, but there is still no time constraint. Regardless, the app is so helpful that it is worth adjusting how you manage allowance and following the apps structure. Overall, really good app - I recommend! I hope you keep improving it.

Never forget allowance day again

Perfect for automatic weekly allowance and current balance. Easy to enter spending transactions and other occasional deposits. We havent needed any other features yet.

Great Features, Poor Performance

My kids and I really want to like this app but the synch is horrible. My son checks off his chores on a daily basis. I go in at the end of the week and none of his chores are checked off on my end. If I approve checked off chores, then they sometimes show up checked off on his. Kids losing faith which is a shame as it offers all the features weve been looking for. Also annoying is that two people cannot make changes at the same time on two different systems. Have to make changes on one, then get out of the app, wait a few minutes, and then maybe the changes show up on the other device. Wish it had icloud synch vs dropbox. Theres a few other bugs but poor synch is the deal breaker. Improve the synch capability and this would be 5 stars - easily.

I wish it could synch across devices

I have been using this app to manage my sons allowance for a couple years and it has been very helpful. I just wish I could access it from my iPhone as well as the iPad without having to go through a big production of saving data to Dropbox. But aside from that one issue, this is a great app.

Excellent app with excellent customer service

I started using this app for my seven and nine-year-old girls. They love watching their progress and counting their stars at the end of each day. The ability to split their funds into savings, spending and tithing works really well for us. I also like how you can customize your own chores and rewards. I ran into some trouble getting the app fully loaded on my husbands phone. I sent an email to customer service on a Sunday night and got a very fast response. I was definitely impressed with the service quality. I highly recommend this app!

No sync, cant use

We fell in love with this app last year but lost steam and quit using it because it wouldnt sync with both mine and my wifes devices. If it cant sync its worthless to us. Went back to it planning to get back on track in the new year only to find that syncing issues STILL HAVENT BEEN RESOLVED. So disappointing! Please fix it! We need it!

Cute Layout, Confusing Set Up

I was charmed by the creativity and organization of this app, but it provides no directions on how to set it up! For example, it has you enter in allowance percentages for each individual chore. This app need a little more directions.

Wanted to Like It

I purchased the full upgrade on my iPhone 5s, b/c after setting up the allowance system I felt it would be perfect. HOWEVER, the sync option is not functional. I synced it to my Dropbox account and then downloaded the app on my iPhone 4 my daughter uses as an iPod, so she could view her banks and earning options anytime. Here are the problems I discovered: 1. The "Sync" tutorial merely tells you how to sync it to Dropbox and not how to actually retrieve that data on another device. While I figured it out myself, anytime I did ANYTHING in the app after syncing it to Dropbox I received an error stating it could not communicate with Dropbox and to check my Internet connection. Well, uh, both iPhones were on my WiFi. 2. The parental controls are confusing, as in the viewing mode it still allows for checking items off and in my daghters iPhone it allowed me to retrieve a reward that went against her balance (left a negative balance actually) and then the Dropbox errors started. Has potential, but should have true OTA syncing ability without the need for Dropbox and a simple parental control function that says, "view only mode" for each device. Given it does not, this app is cumbersome and not functional for the behavioral plan I created.
